In my workshop a new cello is in the making
At the violin making fair at Kronberg Festival Germany from 26. to 28. September 2024 I will present my new cello I’m working on in my workshop. It’s a Francesco Ruggeri model. (Francesco Ruggeri was an Italian violin maker who lived and worked in Cremona, Italy, in the 17th century.)
It has a beautiful one-piece poplar back, from a tree which I sawed open myself 25 years ago. The tree grew in Werdenfelser Land near Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The front is made of French mountain spruce from the Haute Savoie, which is also approx. 25 years old.
Still the cello misses the varnishing, but soon it will be ready for presentation at Kronberg Festival.
